House Rules

Ashburton Repair Cafe (the CIO) operates using House Rules. These are subject to periodic review.

  • The work carried out in the Repair Cafe is performed free of charge by volunteers.
  • A voluntary donation is greatly appreciated as this contributes towards our running costs. Please gift aid this donation if possible.
  • New materials used to effect a repair may be charged at cost — we will tell you about this in advance if the cost is more than £10, and must be paid before the item is returned to you.
  • Neither the organisers, nor the volunteers, are liable for any loss that may result from advice or instructions concerning repairs, for the loss of items handed in for repair, or for any consequential loss resulting from the work performed in the Repair Cafe.
  • Once offsite, the safety of items is no longer the responsibility of the Repair Cafe.
  • Visitors offering broken items for repair do so at their own risk.
  • Our volunteers making repairs offer no guarantee for the work carried out, and are not liable for any items which subsequently do not work properly at home.
  • Our volunteers are entitled to refuse to repair items.
  • Our volunteers are not obliged to reassemble disassembled appliances that cannot be repaired.
  • We reserve the right to accept only one item at a time from a client.
  • Visitors to the Repair Café are solely responsible for the tidy removal of broken objects that could not be repaired.
  • Car parking: please park in the Grey Matter car park (opposite our workshop). Please don't block access to other units or Ashburton Wholefoods.
